Launch of 6 Alcantara TIGER Fellowships

2012-10

The Alcantara initiative is part of ESA's General Studies Programme and focuses on cooperation between research groups in Europe and those based elsewhere, in study areas of mutual benefit. Within the context of TIGER, Alcantara is supporting African scientists selected from the TIGER network to carry out research work for one year within European research institutes.

The following 6 Alcantara TIGER research projects have been just kicked-off:

- Effects of land cover change on the hydrologic regime of Lunsemfwa River Basin, Zambia, led by Jonathan Kampata -University of Zambia with the collaboration of the University of Twente

- Water reservoir mapping in the Volta Basin, West Africa, led by Frank Annor -Kwame Nkrumah University, Ghana with the collaboration of Delft University of Technology

- Monitoring of aquatic plants proliferation for Lake Victoria, led by Elijah K. Cheruiyot, O. Collins -University of Nairobi with the collaboration of Delft University of Technology

- Definition of EO indicators for irrigation performance monitoring, lead by Nadia Akdim and Kamal Labbassi -Universite. Chouaib Doukkali with the collaboration of Delft University of Technology

- Ecological Modeling in the Nile Delta, led by H. Farag -National Water Research Center, Egypt with the collaboration of of the University of Twente

- Modeling River Hydrodynamic and Sediment Transport Processes in the Mara Wetlands led by Joseph Mtamba -UDSM with the collaboration of the University of Twente
